Being on camera ain't as easy as it looks!
Are you gearing up to be in front of the lens for a video shoot in Seattle? CoCreate Studios is here to help! Whether you’re a seasoned influencer or a first-timer, we’ve got some tips to help you prepare for a successful shoot day.
Being on camera and doing an interview can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never done one before. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this video, we share some tips to help you feel comfortable and confident during your interview.
Tip #1
Let it come naturally. Imagine you’re talking to your best friend.
Tip #2
Ignore the bright lights and equipment. Sometimes when we get on set, all the equipment and spotlight feels really strange. For me, what helps is focusing on my breathing, and asking to see a quick look at the frame. This helps adjust my posture and gives me confidence.
For others, it may be interacting with the crew, getting a good night’s sleep, or reviewing your the content pillars or script. At the end of the day, just know, if you mess up, it’s all going to be okay – we can just do it again. We have a team of active listeners and we’ll be looking out for any points to re-do if needed.
We are sometimes our own worst critics!
Tip #3
If you’re representing your company, make sure to review the content pillars. We make sure not to send the exact interview questions as a best practice.
The reason is – sometimes we end up trying to write a perfect response and memorizing it.
Remember, you were picked for a reason – and one of those reasons is that you already represent the company well. Your company’s content pillars should be helpful and act as your compass to point you in the right direction.
Tip #4
Review your Call Sheet. We’ll be sending you a call sheet with everyone else involved so you know your call time. This allows ample time for you AND the production crew to prepare.
If you need to leave at a certain time, please communicate with us or your company’s MPOC (main point-of-contact) so we can account for it BEFORE shoot day!
Tip #5
If you’re reading a script, make sure to do a couple of dry reads before. You might be stumbling across a series of words because it doesn’t sound like you, or there may be a better way to get the message across. Proof-reading scripts allow us to fix these before the lights are on and the cameras are ready.
Message us if you need us to change the layout to help for better pacing or if it just needs to sound a bit more like YOU saying it.
Tip #6
If you’re reading from the teleprompter, read the BLUE part of the teleprompter. That’s where the eye line looks most natural, otherwise it’ll look like your eyes are looking down or up and it may appear as you are reading.
Tip #7
It’s okay to ask to review a take or two.
Please be mindful of the schedule while doing so, but don’t feel afraid to ask to review some of your takes on set! Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror, I realize my posture is poor and I self-correct. Seeing yourself on a take can help you ‘self-correct’ things you know are not your normal manners.
Tip #8
Dress appropriately! Dress in a way that is appropriate for the company and the audience. Choose clothing that is professional and aligns with the company’s values and culture. We recommend bringing at least 2 wardrobes if it’s an interview.
Tip #9
This one is optional but bring any necessary materials with you to the shoot, such as photos, newspaper clippings, or anything else that can help bring context to the project!
Remember, interviews are an opportunity to showcase your skills and potential. With the right preparation and mindset, you’ll be coming in there more confident and ready to crush it. By following these tips, you’ll be ready to shine on shoot day and create a high-quality video that represents your brand in the best possible light.
